Pratchett's Discworld books are filled with humor and with magic, but they're rooted in-of all things-real life and cold, hard reason." -Chicago Tribune There are time where I have no clue what the hell is going on but it's quite nice to just relax my brain and let it be carried along by the story."Humorously entertaining. I think it benefitted from having a (slightly) more coherent plot than the first, and I'm beginning to feel more settled into the world. Plus the librarian is an orangutan and I just love that! I liked getting more of a look at the Unseen University and the petty internal politics of the wizards. Luggage also became more a of a real character than he was in the previous novel, and I love Luggage so more of him is entirely welcome! The dynamic between Rincewind and Twoflower also grew and flourished more in this book. I really loved Rincewind and Twoflower's new companions Cohen the Barbarian, once legendary but now ageing and toothless, and his teenage bride Bethan who he rescued after she was to become a ritual sacrifice. I finished this book over a week ago in baking hot sun. Although I still a bit confused at times. I enjoyed this much more than the first one! The plot was much more a straightforward quest format which made it a lot easier to follow. It's probably helped that I read this immediately after finishing (Colour with a U, seriously Goodreads!). This is the second part to the story of Rincewind and Twoflower's adventures (as they were last seen falling over the edge of the world).
